It’s easy to speculate that there may be a shakeup behind the scenes, or that there may be some rough waters ahead for the franchise with the closure of 2K Australia and Armstrong’s departure, but fans need not worry. In a recent comment regarding his departure announcement, he offers clarity on his decision:
When one of the brains behind an adored title decides to part ways, it’s always a tough pill to swallow when thinking about the future of the franchise. Fortunately, Borderlands has brought on plenty of talent, and veterans still remain behind the scenes. Armstrong even notes his optimism for the future of Gearbox and Borderlands in his statement.
On an additional positive note, Armstrong isn’t planning on hanging up his hat just yet:
Armstrong has proven his talent with not only his work on the Borderlands titles, but also with Half-Life: Decay and Half-Life: Blue Shift, so it will be exciting to see someone of his caliber break away and focus on new challenges. His determination to focus on developing a brand new experience for himself and gamers makes his future something to keep an eye on.
Gamers can check out a chunk of Armstrong’s portfolio by picking up the recently released Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, which features Borderlands 2, and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, as well as all of the currently released DLC for both titles. Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
